Torrington
is a city in Goshen County, Wyoming, United States. The population was 5,776 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat.
The town was founded by W.G. Curtis and named by him after Torrington, Connecticut where he had earlier lived. Originally a station on the C.B.& Q Railroad, the blossoming town soon became the main source of civilization for outlying pioneers. With its post office (established 1889) and several businesses it became a central area of trade for that region of Wyoming. The county court house was built in 1913 after a short fight with the neighboring town of Lingle, Wyoming.
