Gillette
is a city in Campbell County, Wyoming, United States. The population was 19,646 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Campbell
County. The current mayor of Gillette is Duane Evenson, whose seat will be up for election in the fall of 2006. Founded in 1891 in conjunction to the onset of the railroad and livestock trade, Gillette is now known as the "Energy Capital of the Nation," in reaction to its vast reserves of coalbed methane and sub-bituminous coal, and once thriving oil industry. Gillette is named after Edward Gillette, a railroad surveyor and civil engineer, who saved the railroad money through his skillful work.
