San Angelo is a city in and the county seat of Tom Green
County, Texas, United States. It is also the principal city of the 'San Angelo, Texas Metropolitan Statistical Area' which encompasses all of both Irion and Tom Green counties of Texas. As of the 2000 census, San Angelo had a total population of 88,439.
The city is located at the confluence of the North Concho River and South Concho River, which in turn form the Concho River, a tributary of the Colorado River.
San Angelo is home to Angelo State University and a branch campus of Howard College.
The city is home to the San Angelo Colts, a United League Baseball minor league team; as well as the San Angelo Stampede Express, a minor league indoor football team.
It is also home to the Fort Concho National Historic Landmark, the location of a yearly Christmas festival, Christmas at Old Fort Concho, and during the late 19th century the headquarters of the 8th Cavalry, made up mainly of "buffalo soldiers".
Goodfellow Air Force Base is also located at the city's outskirts. The primary tasks of the units stationed there are intelligence and firefighter training.
Mathis Field (also known as San Angelo Regional Airport) is the commercial airport serving the city.
San Angelo's main newspaper is the San Angelo Standard-Times.
